Château de Montguéret sits in the Loire valley in the region of Anjou on the edge of the Saumur region. It covers the Anjou, Saumur and Coteaux du Layon appellations. Built in 1880, the Château is in the style of Napoleon III, an elegant blend of three materials found in the region: Saumur tuffeau, Anjou schist and Sevres brick. The building and its old storerooms,
flanked by two bell towers at either end, exudes an old world charm and offers a lovely view over the Layon opposite. The upper floor opens onto a large, stately hall shaped like a boat, with exposed beams, a refinement that signifies the changes spearheaded by the Lacheteau firm since it purchased the estate in 1987. The estate, which possessed 25 hectares at the time, was extended and saw major investments. The old vines were retained, but the new owners grafted a more modern heart onto them. The Helfrich family bought this estate in 2005 and continues to endeavour to draw the best out of this terroir.
